Emotionally focussed couples therapy has a significant body of research that supports its efficacy. This is the type of couples counselling I use. Couples change and the change is sustained over long term, generally. It can especially help in situations where there are “injuries” such as an affair and when there is a history of trauma in one of the partners. Please see the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focussed Therapy’s research outcome page for further information and updates.
Whether you stay in your relationship is up to you. But whether you are struggling in relationship, thinking of leaving or have left, are dealing with an affair or crisis, or just want to baby- or marriage-proof a good relationship, counselling can teach you the skills to not only stay together but to thrive as a couple.
If you are not working on relationship but have feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, and irritability I know how debilitating those can be.
Learning skills to manage stress from a safe and supportive counsellor is the key to turning things around.
Research shows that more than the specific tools used, it is the therapeutic relationship between the client and counsellor that is the most important factor in therapy success. Finding someone who fits with you is essential.
I understand how hard it can be to speak to a counsellor. My focus on creating a safe, supportive environment helps even the most nervous clients feel at ease. In our sessions you can expect to feel listened to and respected. While I tailor our work to your specific goals, you could expect our work together to strive towards the following outcomes, if you desire:
- Feeling more present in your body
- Increased confidence
- Use of healthier coping skills to manage stress and anxiety
- Feeling at peace in life
- Creating and maintaining deeply satisfying relationships with family, friends, and coworkers
- Being more of the parent you want to be
- Resolving traumatic responses
- Better sleep
I believe that we all have times in our lives when things fall apart. You don’t have to struggle by yourself.
