Feeling unlike yourself in perimenopause?
Counselling for women in New Westminster navigating peri-menopause and menopause — the anxiety, the brain fog, the mood shifts, and the late ADHD diagnoses that so often come with them.
If midlife has changed how you feel, you’re not imagining it.
A woman recently emailed to ask if I work with this, because she couldn’t find it anywhere. The answer is yes — and it’s a bigger part of my practice than my old site ever showed.
When your body changes, so does your mind.
Peri-menopause and menopause aren’t only physical. The same hormonal shifts that affect sleep and temperature also affect mood, focus, and anxiety — sometimes dramatically. Many women describe feeling like the ground has moved: the strategies that used to keep them steady just don’t work anymore, and they can’t always tell whether it’s hormones, life, or them.
This is also the season when ADHD is often recognised for the first time, because peri-menopause can pull the lid off patterns a woman managed quietly for decades. Late diagnosis in midlife is common, and it can reframe a whole life story.
More than hot flashes.
These are the experiences women most often bring to me during this stage of life.
How I help.
I’ve done this work for years, and I take it seriously. We make sense of what’s actually happening — separating the hormonal from the situational from the long-standing — so you stop blaming yourself for things that aren’t a personal failing. Where ADHD is part of the picture, we work with that too.
From there, it’s practical: tools for the anxiety and overwhelm, ways to protect your focus and energy, and support for the relationships and roles that shift in midlife. This affects partners too, so couples work is available when it helps.
