Questions, answered.

The things people most often want to know before booking — about getting started, fees, and how sessions work. Still wondering something? Just reach out.

Getting Started

Booking & first steps.

Should I start with individual or couples counselling?

If what’s weighing on you feels mostly yours to carry — anxiety, burnout, a recent diagnosis, feeling unlike yourself — individual counselling is usually the place to start. If the pattern lives mostly between you and your partner, couples counselling may be the better first step. Not sure? Call or email and ask.

Do you offer a free consultation?

I don’t run a separate 15-minute consultation call — in my experience it works better to simply begin. That said, you’re always welcome to call or email a question before booking. That’s different from a sales call, and I’m glad to help you decide whether we’re a good fit.

I’ve never done therapy before. What happens in the first session?

We start by getting the full picture — what’s going on, and what you’d like to be different. You set the pace; nothing is off-limits and nothing is forced. By the end of the first session or two, you’ll have a sense of how we’ll work together.

Who do you work with?

Adults (17+) and couples. I also offer clinical supervision for counsellors. Mine is an affirming, inclusive practice and everyone is welcome.

Fees & Insurance

Fees, billing & coverage.

What are your fees?

Individual counselling is $170 for 60 minutes. Couples counselling is $190 for 60 minutes or $235 for 75 minutes. Clinical supervision is $170 per hour. These reflect the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors’ recommended rates for experienced counsellors. See the Fees & Direct Billing page for full detail.

Do you direct bill to insurance?

Yes — I direct bill to most major BC insurers, including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Canada Life and many others. Coverage depends on your specific plan, and direct billing can’t be guaranteed every time. Where it doesn’t go through, you’ll still receive a receipt to submit for reimbursement.

What payment methods do you accept?

Along with direct billing to most major BC insurers, you can pay for your session by credit or debit card, tap, e-transfer, or cash — whichever is easiest for you.

Will my insurance cover counselling?

Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), but it depends on your plan. It’s worth checking whether you have a counselling or RCC benefit, and how much is available each year — your HR department or insurer can confirm.

Sessions & Approach

How we’ll work.

Are sessions in person or online?

Both. My office is at 490–555 6th Street in New Westminster (wheelchair accessible), and I also see clients by secure video anywhere in British Columbia. You can mix the two however suits your life.

Do you have experience with anxiety?

Yes — anxiety, overthinking, and rumination are among the most common things I work with. We’ll look at what’s driving it and build practical, science-based tools you can use when it flares, rather than only talking about it.

What approaches do you use?

My work draws on attachment science, IFS, EFT and Developmental Couples Therapy, the neuroscience of trauma, and Bodynamics. The framework matters less than what changes in your daily life — sessions are warm, but practical.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in session is confidential, within the standard legal and ethical limits that apply to every Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC. I’ll walk you through those at the start so you know exactly where things stand.

Still have a question?
